Gerard is a Registered Adult Nurse, with 20 years clinical and commercial experience in spinal surgery. Gerard is a member of the Faculty of Perioperative Care at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the British Association of Spinal Surgeons (BASS) and AO Spine. Chrishan Thakar

Spine Consultant

Chrishan is a Fellowship trained spinal surgeon able to offer an opinion on all aspects of spinal surgery with a subspecialty interest in paediatric deformity. Currently Clinical Lead for Spinal Surgery at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Chrishan completed his Orthopeadic training in Oxford in 2016. Appointed as a Consultant in 2018 following completion of Fellowships in Oxford, Stoke Mandeville and Royal National Orthopaedic Hospitals along with visiting Fellowship to Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore in India. Chrishan’s comprehensive training allows him to deliver a truly patient centred approach to patient’s problems. In addition, Chrishan works with leading experts as part of the Oxford Spine Clinic group which enables him to offer the best care to his patients, offering the latest in interventions and treatments to manage most spinal conditions. Chrishan has an interest in research, management and education and currently sits on the EuroSpine Education committee having also sat previously British Association Spinal Surgery executive.

Nikolaos Pyrovolou

Spine Consultant

Nikos Pyrovolou is an experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in spinal surgery. 

Nikos graduated from Aristotelion University of Thessaloniki in 1999 progressing to specialise in Orthopaedic Surgery in Athens before furthering his expertise through a complex combined Neurosurgical and Orthopaedic Spinal Fellowship at University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff and Oxford University Hospital. 

Following completion of his advanced training Nikolaos was initially appointed as a Consultant at Salisbury District Hospital working closely with the specialist Spinal Treatment Centre.  

Nikos’ current position as a senior Consultant Spinal Surgeon across Oxford University Hospitals and Great Western Hospital allows him to offer his specialist expertise in a wide range of spinal pathology.

 Special interests: 

Through his career Nikos has developed a special interest in assessing and treating spinal deformity, disc prolapse, spinal stenosis, cervical myelopathy, spinal metastatic tumours and keyhole instrumentation techniques along with the management of lower back pain utilising techniques such as vertebroplasty and injection therapy.

  • Graduated in medicine in 1999 from the Aristotelion University of Thessaloniki 
  • Specialised in Orthopaedic Surgery in Athens

The Bone Cancer Research Trust awarded Mr Jeremy Reynolds with The Bone Idol Dedication Award - Research and healthcare professional. 

The award ceremony took place in November 2021 in The Royal Armouries in Leeds. Jeremy was selected from a huge group of inspiring individuals for having "dedicated his career to spinal sarcoma services and driving improvements in treatment of spinal sarcoma patients".
